Kiskiminetas is derived from a Native American language meaning "make daylight".
==Geography==
The township is located at the southern tip of Armstrong County, bounded to the southwest by the Kiskiminetas River, a tributary of the Allegheny River. It is bordered by the boroughs of Apollo and North Apollo to the west.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of , of which is land and , or 0.89%, is water.〔
